As those of you familiar with
the RV lifestyle know, when you're at a campsite you've "gotta" let your
neighbors know who you are. The unfinished relief carving above is a work
in progress to place in the windshield of our motorhome.
In Davenport, Iowa for the 2006 AWC
Congress, a week of seminars, some last minute competition piece painting and
then...
it was showtime. One of my entries was caricatures of the judges
examining a piece. My "cager" will be a new class project for 2007
Rocky Mountain National Park definitely
has a "Wow!!" factor. Imagine the range behind us from horizon to horizon.
Seeing these
peaks gave me an even greater respect for the pioneers who crossed over them on
foot and in wagons.
At a park in Loveland, Colorado I finally found someone who would
believe every word I said though the pig didn't seem to care. He just sat there
disgruntled.
And then it was time to move on through Southwest Wyoming as we made our way to Salt Lake City, Utah. A visit to Fort Bridger, Wyoming gave us a taste of small town, USA as we enjoyed visiting this historic fort, their 4th of July parade and B-B-Q at the American Legion hall. Those folk know how to enjoy life!
There are pipe organs and then there are pipe organs. This one is in the Mormon's conference center in Salt Lake, City Utah. The raised spot in the lower color section is the organist sitting at the consol.
A drive over a l-o-n-g causeway took us out to Antelope Island in the middle of Utah's Salt Lake where we camped on it's West side and, after watching a thunderstorm pass by in the distance, were treated to a beautiful sunset. The island is home to a huge bison herd which we enjoyed watching. From there it was on to Idaho and Montana as we continued our trip to the Pacific Northwest.
