Carving neckerchief slides as a Boy Scout was his introduction to wood carving and over the years a lot of chips have fallen.  Hands and heads for puppets, carvings of comic book characters, even a totem pole carved in a grab rail on the mine sweeper he was stationed on while in the Navy.  The list is long but carving for Ol' Don at that time was just a hobby.
